Mark - yes, sorry for any confusion. I am really not up on this stuff. I guess all blueing is chemical. And then I guess the difference is whether it is hot or cold?? Maybe an expert can chime in on that one - I do seem to recall a few threads on this at some point in the past.

Anyway, you are correct - it is the stuff you get from the Gun Smith. I have tried both the liquid and the cream forms, and I prefer the cream. I also have blue and rust remover from the same place - it is nasty stuff, as it says on the back that it contains chemicals that are known to cause certain types of cancers in the state of California. Lucky for me I do not live in California!!

Thanks James - much appreciated for the clarification! I'll be at my local gun shop to pick up my vibratory tumbler, and will also pick up some gun blue too now!

That is a good point Lee - I wonder whether the same effect would be achieved if the razor had a really high gloss finish? I suspect probably not.

Yes, I have had numerous requests for similar work by many members. Perhaps some day, when I am not so busy and the price of magic markers drops.

I too follow the Tao of laziness.

Jokes aside, love the 'antique' look Jimbo.
Apart from looking great, a bit of "patina juice' is a great way to save an etch or engraving that would otherwise be lost to sanding.

Everything seems to say that! I've seen it on electronics, metal stuff, polishes, etc. Maybe some weird lawsuit in CA set some precedent that everything with a certain chemical in it needed that on the packaging.

I gotta get some bluing. I have always wanted to try some stuff with it.

looks more uniform than the "Old vinegar trick" I have used to re-patina blades before... I may have to get some of that stuff.
