    Default Just Wax

I have used Tung oil and CA before and I usually put renaissance wax on my scales after I use Tung oil, but I have a nice ebony set I am working on now and I would like the finish to be as natural as possible. Can I use the Renaissance Wax straight on the wood with no other finishing methods? Will it stay water resistant?

I believe I just read that Bruno does this with CA to coat the inside of the scales, although I don't want to speak for him (try shooting him a PM).

I would think that it would be water resistant (not water proof) since the version I have says that it "provides moisture resistance." Conservator's Wax® - Lee Valley Tools

You can wax the wood and get good results. Make sure you use a paste wax.
It won't be super water resistant, but since it's ebony it shouldn't be a huge problem.
For added protection and natural finish you might consider a coat of linseed oil first, then wax.

One thing to keep in mind, when it says water resistant it really means that you get a little water off your glass on the coffee table and wipe it right off..... They are not really talking about a razor that is going to be used in a wet humid enviroment....

    From Renaissance Wax:

    POLISHES AND PROTECTS
Guard your precious pieces against the damaging effects of humidity...heat...dust... environmental destruction...aging...and ordinary wear. RENAISSANCE WAX provides a barrier against fingerprints and the devastation of water, wine, alcohol and other spills. With its high moisture resistance, it forms a durable, lustrous protective coating. prevents tarnish, corrosion and "bloom;" remains completely waterproof; retards weathering on exteriors and objects exposed to climatic abrasion.

I think I might give it a try with a few coats of this stuff. I usually oil them beforehand but it looks so dang good now. What does Mastro Livi do on his nartual finish scales? They look like have no protection.
