When I first got them they looked the same (black). It is when I put the Maas on one side that it become brown.

So you think my first step would be go from 800 -> 2000 grit sandpaper on the scale?

just adding my 2 cents... try cleaning the other one with maas and then more maas... i have had some black horn scales turn brownish when cleaned as the black was simply a dye job not natural... they were streaked with lighter colors and i chose to leave them as natural

from the pic i just cannot tell

in this post I'll wager the horn were dyed black and he cleaned off the dye... look familiar?

Ya know Jim's got a great point, look at those bumps on the one side.....
either way a little more MAAS won't hurt anything..... other than yer elbow

But yes the 800-2000 would be the next step, also the one thing that Jim nor I can tell through the computer is the smell, as yer cleaning them that is a dead give away as to what they are made of....

    Camphor smell = Celluloid
    Boiled meat smell = Bone/Horn
Hot electrical connection smell = Bakelite

Thanks Glen! I do remember smelling something similar to a hot electrical smell, almost like burnt rubber. Now I am just thinking of were to save your last post for future reference!!

Should I know what Camphor smells like?
