Thread: Question about scale stock

I'm no expert by any means, but a quick google search says:

"The horn itself forms as a hollow cone-shaped sheath around the bone"

Presumably, the tip end could have a hollow, and the bottom would be solid.

Maybe someone who really knows will chime in.

Horn is solid towards the tip however depending on the length of the horn it is usually only solid for a few inches. I worked some Buffalo(American Bison) horn once that was solid for about 4 inches. buying raw horn though is alot of work usually it comes very rough and takes a lot of sanding to get to a smooth state for polishing. When I made powder horns I always tried to buy some that were already pre sanded to a smooth state to make it easier on me and less smelly too. Hope this helps you out?
