Default Removing minor rust and stains

I picked up a razor that was in fairly good shape. The scales where slightly off. I straightened them out. That was cool.

The blade has a couple of stains and pinpoint rust spots. What's the best way for me to remove them but still maintain the etching on the blade. Can I just polish it out with a metal polish? I have other blades but this is the only one that had shown any rust since I have gotten them. Are some blade more prone to rusting? How can I help prevent that?

    Thanks,
    Ed M

Pictures would help since you mentioned etching. I usually used steel wool (#0000) and some soap. Touch it up with some polish. Be very careful around gold plating and such. The polish will take that off fairly fast.

I use a felt wheel with a little soap on a dremel
