    Default First Restoration

First razor, and my first restoration. It's a George Wostenholm & Son and a little shy of a 6/8. The original scales were uglier than sin and warped to boot. The blade is in good condition, although it's got a lot of hone wear. I took off a lot of the age with sand paper and MAAS, but it's got some funky scratches near the blade that make me think someone tried to sharpen it with something like gravel at one point.

I made new scales from apple wood and pinned it back together. The fit is decent, and the blade doesn't rub on the scales. The blade still holds a very nice edge (As nice as I can put on anyways. Still new to honing) and shaves very well.

Hopefully I added the picture correctly. Fingers crossed!

Looks like a fine first effort. Nice wood grain and color too. Those pipe razors have a great reputation as shavers.

Very creative! Nicely done - though I think you would get more attention if you posted this in the Gallery.

Very interesting scales - I'd love to see a picture of it closed.

Whoops! Wasn't sure whether to put it here or in the Gallery.

I was kind of thinking of anvil clouds when I made them, but I think you're right. It did kinda come out like a gunstock.

Next time I come across a camera, I'll try to get a picture of them closed. Heh, I still don't have one. I get my pictures by luck.

I'd like to thank everyone on here for the wonderful resources they've provided on restoring razors. Without your knowledge, I would not have even known where to start. Thanks!
