    Default custom blade blanks

Does anyone cut custom high carbon steel blanks for a razor. I mean just the blanks to grind yourself.

Never heard of it, but you might be able to convince someone to do it. It'd have to be worth the money though. How much you got for me? lol

My uncle works for a company that has a water jet and they routinely make knife blanks. They could probably cut razor blanks also. They might be able to source the raw stock also. Sen dme a pm and I will pass along the contact info.

they are working on cutting some purple heart scales for me currently.

like in my case that i have plans for

    my tang shape
3 inch of blade area (could cut different tang lengths and point types from one main blank)
    3/16 thick 52100
7/8 (i can cut down but not add to)
1/8 inch pivot hole (that way i dont have to peen pins)

since i have my own heat treat and grinding tools i would worr about that stuff later

Butch- isn't that just a 'production' razor then rather than a full custom? Cool idea though.

all grinding would have to be done and the blade part would be just a rectangle for me to shape as i saw fit

my time saving would be more from not sitting at my band saw and also i could save waste it the parts were nested

all handles would still be handle cut and finished

if taking just one step out of my hands is then production then so be it

but if i have to call them production i ll also have some one blank out handles and part grind the blades for me too cut spacers and then. all i have to do is heat treat then finish grind then put together

as it is i have a pattern i use fro all muy std. blades 5/8all the way to 8/8 at

there is alot of waste when cuttign a razor from a bar and not nestign parts. not that the 3-5$ per blade charge fro cuttign saves me over all all but i hate to have piles of steel dust on the floor that i could be usigng

BTW im talking about 10-20 blanks at a time not 500
now the other option i might look into is making blades to sell to guys that want to scale them themselves
i could offer a great steel and good heat treating at a cost thats not bad

Butch the option where you sell blades sounds really interesting. If you decide that you would be willing to do that then I would be interested in getting some 7/8 and 8/8 for my boyfriend and his son to do scales for.
