    Default Scale Material

    Hello -

I picked up an old razor at the antique place near my house.

the tang reads: W.M. Greaves and Son the Sheaf Works Sheffield

the blade has the following engraved
    The celebrated fine Indian Steel

Was this a good pick up? It needs to be cleaned up a bit - two very small rust spots on the blade (nowhere near the edge) and where the scale pin runs through the tang.

The scales appear to be a translucent yellow - I thought celluloid, but woudl horn be the likely material for the age of the razor? How can I tell if iits horn, and what do I do to the scales to bring them back to life?

I will post pics in a few days, once I find my camera....

I love my Wm. Greaves and they were frequently given horn scales. Got a pic?
