Make sure you read through the entire thread as you will see that I change from using wood to using brass, the brass forms work way better..
I would guess that any metal form would work, I just happened to have the brass laying around....

A note on Glen's great explanation about fixing warped blades and also talking out of experience. Some plastic scales when dipped into the hot water treatment will truly become washed out and faded. Watch the length you dip them in the water and the water's temp. Some will need less than 15 sec each dip.
Some will lose their shiny coating. I'm not talking about the water deposit. They will need to be re-polished with the correct polishing tools used for scales. But it does work in the end with excellent results if done correctly.

You could also attach the scales to a base and use the hairdryer on some plastic scales. When done carefully dip them in cold water. Works too but timing is crucial.

You never mentioned what the scales were made of!
I would bet they are a plastic of some type, I'm just being pedantic.
The other week I fixed a set of scales by bending them back with my bare hands, but they were stainless steel and I knew where and how far to bend them.
