Etched Blades
Im sure this has been talked about but I havent found alot about it. Is there a way or proper mothod for polishing etched blades without messing up the etch? Or are you pretty much screwed if there is piting involved?

Hi Matt:
Do you mean "washed" blades as in gold wash? Or do you mean blades where the etch is actually depressed in the surface of the blade?
I have gold washed blades, blades where the characters LOOK etched but on closer inspection are either frosted or etched so lightly that it's more like a wash and I have blades that have deep etching that's safe from pretty much anything including regrinds.
Washes, you're going to have to leave them as is I'm afraid. Even rubbing them very lightly with a fine polishing compound like Maas or Flitz will dull any shine in them instantly; rub a bit longer and kiss the wash goodbye. The best I've been able to do is rub them lightly with a dry "micro-fiber" towel and leave them as is.
The "frosted" etch is also about as delicate.
I don't know if that helps.

Yeah thats pretty much what I was thinking too. I have two King Cutters they are Lightly Etched as you know. One I havent recived yet but looked to have alot of gold wash left but may or may not have a place outside/above the etch. Will just have to wait and see. I have restored some regular blades but besides a etched original condition Atalope Special these are/will be my only others.
