    Default Restoring first razor

I have started restoring my first razor. It's a Torrey just like the one below, but it was not in good shape when I got it. This picture is actually of one that someone here won on fleaBay last month.

Anyway, when making wood scales, is it common practice to start with 1/8 veneers? Or is a little thicker preferred? My local WoodCraft store carries 1/8 and 1/4 wood veneers.

    Thanks,
    Ed M.

The 1/8 is a fine starting point for that razor, the only time I start with the 3/16 is if I am working a heavy wedge....The 1/4 I have never used it just feels and looks to bulky to me YMMV

Great, cause that's what I have.

After looking at it I thought I might bee too thin, but then scales are pretty thin.

What has been interesting has been fabricating the scales for the tang. They where cracked and not in good shape. So I have made some out of wood. They are being finished in polyurethane and should be on the blade tonight. I can't wait.

I'll post pics when I have them.
