    Default Sanding/Polishing a razor

I've been sanding a razor to bring it back to life and everything has been going pretty good. Now that I've reached the 2000 grit paper it looks pretty good but there are still many scratches in it.

Where do I go from here? What will get those micro scratches out? Is there a progression that should be followed here too?

I have a metal polish, but there is no indication of grit if there is any. I also have #1 diamond paste which I have used to clean up some blades. Awesome stuff.

    Thanks,

Last time i cleaned one up to a mirror i went to 1200, then on to the polishing wheel & that was enough. It may be that the scratch patterns from the previous grits are still visible. Of course, steel hardness will play a part in this & i may have just been lucky.
Do you have access to a polishing wheel? You can get them to fit in a drill.

I would have to pick one up. It does concern me a bit to put a blade to a spinning wheel that's not secure. I probably should work it with the 2000 a bit more. I agree that it probably still has scratches from previous grits.

What do you use for polishing compound?

You can clamp it down, or put it in a vice. There will always be some risk with any type of spinning wheel when combined with even a blunt razor. It's about taking what precautions you can, common sense & not digging the edge into the thing!
If you're sure you've progressed through the grit's properly then give it a go with the 2k again. If not, go back down them a little.
You may even find that a polish will get them out?
    Good luck.

Sand it heel to toe until it is as perfect as you can get it. then polish spine to edge on the buffing wheels...

NOTE : SPINE TO EDGE never ever edge to spine....

I start with Emory on the wheels then take it all the way to CrO if I am going for mirrior....
