Default The Best way for a perfeck blade!

    Hi,

I am a Norwegian user. I love "fixing" old blades. If there is somebody around here having problems with blades that have rust, dirt ect. I use a spesial liquid thats called STRIPALL. You just simply dip the balde and the handle in a jar of STRIPALL. And then you wait for 20 - 50 min depends on how rusty your blade is. Belive it or not your blade will be MINT condition!

    Hi,
Got any before & after photo's? It'd be interesting to see. Does the blade go grey at all?

It is most llikely some mix of phosphoric acid, a pretty good way to get rid brown and red rust in my book. If you can find the MSDS for it you can usually figure out what it is made of.

Hey guys, two questions along this line. One, what about Muriatic acid? I used some to remove the rust from the inside of my mini-bike tank. (5hp briggs, it'll do 37mpg with my 275lbs on it!!!!) it left it gleaming clean.

two, what about a product like Rust-mort? it is a rust converter used on metal. I think it chemically turns it from ferrous to ferric oxide, which of course could also be done by boiling which would work on small parts like blades. then it could be carded off with a wire wheel I wold guess?

How about Birchwood Casey blue and rust remover. I have used it on guns and it will strip it to bare metal. In the pits and all. It smells like rotten eggs though.

I hadn't thought of that. would naval jelly work about the same? haven't used it but hear it strips bluing. hmm....rust bluing is rust that's already covnerted. I wonder if I could get the birchwood stuff at local gunshop.

isn't it similar to Naval Jelly? that wouldn't work for deep pitting, only surface rust. basically has acid as the active ingredient.
