Restoration Project on my Grandpas Str8. Wade And Butcher
I just finished installing a set of G10 scales on this old Wade & Butcher that belonged to my Grandpa. When I recieved the razor it had a large chip out of the heal. I sanded this out as best as possible. The scales turned out good with the exception of finishing them. They are dull.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make them shine?
I tried buffing them, wet sanding them, buffing with polishing compound. Nothing has worked well yet.

I would apply a light coat or two of polyurethane (spray would be optimal) then buff a little to even it out.

That chip took some drastic measures! It looks good though. Far better to do that than consign a piece of family history to a drawer. As floppyshoes suggested, if you seal them with something, you should be able to get them to shine.

It did indeed take some drastic measures. I just couldnt let Gramps razor go. I thought it was worth practicing on also. I wouldnt want to rescale a W&B that was in good condition with good scales. This one had the chip and the scales were shot. The razor is actually one of my favorite razors to shave with.
