My First Restore
Well, I got a lot of razors off one of our favorite online bidding sites. The lot included this 7/8 unmarked blade. The scales were broken, and the blade was quite rusty. I shined it up, put the blade in paduck, sealed it with tung oil, and pinned it with brass pins. Overall I am happy with my first attempt. It is not without flaws. I didn't get the wedge in tight against the scales. The blade is centered and tight, there are just some hair line spaces between the wedge and the scale. She shaves real well. I have used it the last 3 days since I finished it and it gets the job done.

Well done Raghur,
I'm anxiously waiting for my broken up razor.. I've ordered new scales for it that should be on their way from the UK..and some microfasteners as pins..
Did you make those scales yourself? I realy like them..

Thanks, yes I made them my self out of Padauk which is an orange wood. I bought 1/8 stock from Rockler. cut two pieces that were 6" long and put them together with double sided carpet tape. I then copied the shape of the scales from my W&B chopper (which I really like), cut it out the shape on a band saw, and sanded the heck out of it. Once I was done with that I drilled the holes for the pins, slapped some tung oil on em, and then put it all together.
I am lucky though, I am in the Marine Corps and at the base I am located at they have a wood hobby shop. I can go in and use all the power tools for .50 a day per item that I am using. In this case I used the band saw, sanding station, and the spindle sander. Total cost for equipment "rental" 1.50. After the rough sanding on the sanding station etc, I did the rest by hand.
I got some turning blanks from Woodcraft and some badger nibs from a place out in Az. My next project is to turn some handles and make my own brush.
