Default Jeweler's Hammer and Brass Rod

I have been looking a hammer for installing new pins on razors and ran across a nice looking jeweler's 5&1/2 oz. hammer. Is that too heavy or must I get something much lighter? Also, I want to buy some brass rod and washers. Is 1/16 then standard rod size and what size washers. Thanks in advance.

Dude, it's the weekend. things slow down. I'm sure the knowledgeable restorers will chime in soon. If not, why not join the chat Tuesday night.

I use a peen hammer of 2oz or 4oz and yes 1/16 is pretty much a standard rod size used for peening. As to washers you have a choice of #0, #0 wide and even #00.
If you can find a hammer lighter than the 5 1/2 oz I would go for the lighter one.

I was at the hobby store and the washers they have are size 0-80. The hole is center hole size is correct though. I will be repinning my restore this week. I need to get over to the inlaws to borrow my FILs vice of which he has 2 so I may "borrow" one. Yes 1/16 is correct size, but you could use bolsters for those big meat choppers.

I watched the Theirs Issard video and the artisan used a hammer like this to pin a razor. I have also seen pics of the same type hammer used to pin pocket knives in Solingen. I have tightened many a pin with this 4 oz. baby here with no problems.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Are you using the spokes of your bicycle to pin your razor? (or is that not an axle of a bicycle on the picture)

I was almost going to buy a hammer for pinning..

That's because this is the standard hammer pattern here in Europe. I.e. I'm just trying to find a classical, american style ball peen hammer but it isn't easy at all, so I will by one from the US on eBay...
BTW, this is my first post here...
