Default An idea that didn't work: Scotch Brite Scrubbing Pad Scales

Ok, so I thought it would look cool: a glass finish on a scotch brite (green) scrubby pads, seeing those fibers encased in a clear CA.

It didn't work. The CA doesn't harden rock solid, the scales bent and flexed even after they cured for a week in open air.

    Oh well.

Sounds neat! Maybe a clear acrylic or something similar that will harden properly. Check with traveller aka Gary as to what he does with his scales.

maybe some epoxy, it should harden thick enough and clear enough. (I think)

    Default Epoxy

I've used a T-88 Epoxy by a company called System Three as a filler for when the pivot pin hole in the blade itself is drilled too large for my purposes. After 48 hours, it's hard as a rock, but a little sticky to the touch. If you had a small mold of say masking tape and toothpicks, you could probably form a decent scale material with your scour pads and the epoxy. It dries pretty clear, with a kind of amber tint. I might look pretty. Or it might look mottled brown. Anyway, I'm sure you could sand it to shape after it set and then coat it in a clear coat of enamel. I use a Valspar spray enamel that dries as a hard plastic with two or three coats and a 24 hour wait. I got the Valspar at lowe's for $3.50. You can find the System Three Epoxy at Woodcraft or other wood stores, I would imagine. Maybe even at lowe's...
