    This is the oft-referenced "Verhoeven paper" that gets discussed so much in the advanced honing section.

    His page at Iowa State is here, and the original knife sharpening article is found here.

    Verhoeven is a prominent researcher in the field of ancient damascus steels, and his page has links to some of his papers on the subject.
