I think you've got that backwards. Those scratches are much bigger than 2000 grit paper can remove. They would have been removed by lower grit paper.

I just thought I would first say thanks for all the wonderful comments. Second, I thought I would tell you that I shaved with it this morning and will sterilize it before it goes to its new owner. I just had to make sure it was ready to go. I have three cuts because I was not used to this much razor (my daily razors are mostly 5/8 round points and much lighter) but minus the few scrapes the shave is the best yet. I also thought I would say that for the size I finally learned that there is a balance and this razor even with the scales has more balance than my smaller razors. Thanks, Again!

I received a bizarre PM criticizing me for my comment about the scratches on this razor. It has been my understanding that this section of the forum is intended to help people learn how to work on their razors, not simply to serve as a means of obtaining compliments for one's work. Despite the claim otherwise, I have no objection to anyone's presence on this site. Also I certainly did not tell anyone "you did a crappy job and I don't like you."

I'm not out to get anyone. If I give advice to someone and I get feedback that it is not appreciated, then I will not offer any more to that person. That doesn't mean that I will remain silent if that person posts something with which I disagree. In this instance, I simply expressed my opinion about the size of the scratches because I personally don't see the point in moving up to a finer grit until the scratch pattern of the previous grit has been removed. That's it. Pardon me for not making an adequately positive comment but in my opinion, my comment was constructive.

Regarding my use of a username rather than my real name, that is my choice. I don't feel the inflated need of others to spread my personal information around on the web, but that does not mean that I have anything to hide. Anyone who might care to know my life story is welcome to PM me for any details they wish.

Finally, regarding my signature line, for which I was also criticized by someone "highly educated," I never claimed it to be Latin, nor did I request a Latin lesson. My first degree was an AB from Harvard, where I was a member of the Harvard Band for four years and their motto happens to be the same as my signature line. Its implied translation is "Don't let the bastards grind you down." I felt that it was appropriate for this forum and a select few of its members.

Your workmanship is improving at a tremendous rate! Very nice, but is the blade not quite centered? That part's the hardest for me. Either way, it's looking good.

For the record. I sent a nasty PM to Utpoia for which I apologize. It was my fault and apparently I deserved a dose of public response to the message. I responded wrong in a slight fit of frustration. Again, I was wrong. For what its worth, yes the razor was not perfect and the next time I will pay even closer attention to detail. However, I do try to leave something positive when I make comments because I know most people here are better at this art than I am. I hope to see his restorations on the forum though to learn form his example. He was right and I was wrong.

Kudos to Utopian for sticking up for himself. Also, kudos to trey for apologizing.
Sometimes, when you work really hard at something, you can get attached to it.

Personally I consider all my work, good, bad or ugly, to be excrement. Simply what is left behind AFTER the act. Perhaps there are some here that would benefit from this perspective.

This being said, the razor featured in this thread was a fine bit of excrement. It must have been fun to pass.
Please no nasty PM's. If you don't get poetic analogies, don't ask for my opinion.
