Rolls Razor Repair
While I do not know how many people have a Rolls, I assume those that do need the strop replaced or the blades sharpened.
I replaced the strop in mine this weekend with some black Latigo leather and sharpened the blades.
I am going to go and clean the insides up and relube and oil.
I am considering this as a Rolls Tune up service.
Is this something that people would be interested in?

Thanked: 84I think most people could do a lube and strop job. If you could repair a mechanism though, that might be of interest to some people.

It would be good if you would write a document with photo's demonstrating what you did. I have several Rolls Razors, I noticed that some apply more pressure to the blade when it is being honed or stropped. Makes me think the ones that apply lighter pressure probably need some type of adjustment.

How about replacing the hone with a better one also? Maybe a spyderco cut to size?

I thought about cutting hones down. I thought about bouts and other smaller pocket hones. Problem is that the size is roughly 1/4" thick. Which could break very easily.
Also I have no water saw.
I can post the how tos but it is relatively easy.
There are lots of things that you can do with the strop side which is easier to fiddle with.
This is the equipment that you will need.
Leather scrap, its cheaper that custom cut.
Aileen's Tacky Glue, Brown Bottle.
Stir Stick from Starbucks, the wood kind.
Clean surface
Cutting mat or other device.
Razor stiffer the better, stiffer makes a straighter cut in the leather.
BOTTOM WEIGHT CANVAS OR LINEN
Fray Ender
1. Remove the old leather from the Rolls Holder. It is usually glued, but mine popped out with my pocket knife.
2. Clean the bottom of any remaining glue.
3. Cut the leather to match the size of the leather. Careful leather is thick and hard to cut. Watch your fingers.
4. Dry fit the piece, fit good proceed.
5. Turn the leather over to see the fuzzy side.
6. Cut a strip of the canvas or linen 1" bigger than you need it. Set aside.
7. Put a ribbon of glue on the fuzzy side of the leather.
8. IMPORTANT. SMOOTH the glue out till it almost disappears on the fuzzy side. No bubbles or globs.
9. Place the fabric on the leather, starting at one end, keeping the fabric tight and straight.
10. Flatten and rub with hand.
11. Apply fray ender to the cut edges of the fabric.
11. Let dry for an hour, place in Rolls and strop.
OR
1/4" Maple or other hard wood
Diamond sprays or other diamond substances in water base.
Cut the wood to fit and coat with diamond spray, CRO2, etc..
Easy Squeezy.
