Default ;_; this Engels is harder than a freakin' diamond!!!!!

    edit: ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I broke it! Ugh. Dropped it in the sink while sanding with mineral oil. Okay, so 3/8 of the toe broke off, $5 shipping to whoever wants it. Was going to throw it in the trash, I was so ****ed. Figure someone might want to attempt a salvage. No pics because my camera broke too.

I've got a F.W. Engels No. 23. I've been at this beast for 2 hours already and I haven't even scratched the surface. This thing worth a lot? Because if its not I'm going to settle for some staining in the blade and just polish it up.

Are you using sandpaper designed for metal?

Don't give up just yet as there are tons of restorers here who would be glad to give you a little helpful advice. They are certain to be along any moment.

That's my question. Use wet/dry paper, not wood stuff. It makes a lot of difference. Other than that, I can only say hand sanding sometimes takes more than 2 hours! Often really for a great finish.

Yup, the razor had a lot of rust and so there was quite a bit of pitting. Also using 320, need to find some 180 if I want to sand seriously, think I'm done with serious sanding jobs. I can polish and I can sand a little, but I don't have the time to sand for 10 hours. Either case, its broken now, so I have to give up. Can't grind off the broken part so....

Whoever wants it, price of shipping and its yours.

Is that 3/8" off the toe? How much is left? If there's at least 2.25" left I'll take it!

hmm, that might be just a bit on the short side to shave with. would have to be careful with the point. Send it! I'll see what I can do with it. PM on the way.

AFAIK it's not worth any more than any other US-made razor. But they're good shavers. I honed up my dad's Engels a few months ago and it took a really nice edge - very Genco-like shaver. I didn't clean it up any farther than Flitz though, since it's been in the family since it was new.
