    OK, I figured it out.

    Started with a fresh piece, and the back of a heavy solid spoon.
    A perfect mushroom without annealing.

    Going to have to re-pin the DA and do it right.

    The other thing is how far sticking out of the vice you have it. The closer it is to the jaws the less likely it is to bend
