Helma's got new shoes (1st rescale)
My first attempt at a rescale. This was an ebay find that I sent to Glen for honing. He generously gave the blade a little polish as well. Scales are stained mahogany. Microfasteners holding it together (I'll probably pin it eventually, I just wanted to get pics up). Polyurethane finish. Spacer is natural mahogany, but you can't see it as I'm working on my razor pr0n technique and can't seem to get good focus on an end shot. One pic shows the blade better, one the scales. I guess this would be softcore razor pr0n and any tips on improving both the scale work and my photography would be greatly appreciated.

She shaves verrry nicely. I started it and then read a couple of threads on balance and
. Didn't even consider it in my initial design. I got lucky in that I stayed pretty close to the original scales' size and the wider wedge end made up for the extra weight of the original wedge, which was some kind of soft metal (lead, maybe?). Glen honed it up beautifully, so no worries on the blade, just had to be extra careful when I fitted it. The round point made that a little easier as well since I didn't have to worry about catching a point on the wedge as I fitted it. It's not perfect, but I know now where I need focus more attention on the next one.

Where there's a will, there's a way.
Job well done for your first rescale!

Try a +3 close up filter on the end of a 50mm lens if you're using a SLR. If you're using a point and shoot, set it on the macro or close-up mdoe (the little flower icon) and get as close as you can but as far away as you have to, to get a good sharp focus on the end. And use a tripod to steady the camera and shoot at the fastest shutter speed the lighting circumstances will allow. If the image looks very small, go ahead and crop it as much as you need to. It should still look nice and clear on a monitor. That would be me advise. Oh, the scales...they look great. I hope to be able to do as well when I get around to trying rescaling.
