If you bread knifed it you may just need to do more work to set that bevel correctly. At this stage I really like the TNT to gauge how the bevel is coming along. If the edge is gliding along your nail then you have more work to go at the lower grits. Plus, the blade looks a bit like a wedge, if that's that case it's going to take you that much longer to establish the bevel. From the pics I think you can get her up and shaving, just keep at it.

Uneven hone wear is not just the result of a heavy hand or bad honing - the shape of the bevel is in part governed by the shape of the spine. If the spine is twisted, canted, has a protusion, etc, etc, it can make itself very evident as far as bevel shape is concerned..Talking about "concerned" the shape of the bevel is not of great concern in my humble opinion - evne wide/thin up-and-down bevels can - and do - give great shapes. I think that the evenness of the bevel is of more of an aesthetic concern than a practical consideration.

After breadknifing it takes considerably more work to get the bevel set - a lot more time than you might imagine, so persevere!

    Regards,
    Neil.

Starting with 220 grit sandpaper folded around the spine, carefully sand away the spine wear and by pressing with your fingertips against the existing bevel clear that up too... This will effectively erase the old bad stuff...
When you go back to the hones put 1 layer of electrical tape on the spine and hone as normal....
Could you explain this in a little more detail? Are you basically saying that you should sort of regrind the spine with sandpaper and shape it?

I've had a couple of these, what I've done is tape the spine, then go to a 600 grit diamond hone to bring the bevel closer to where it should be, so that I don't have to use any really funky strokes -I'm not really comfortable with them yet. Then I start up the progression. It seemed to work alright, but its time consuming and the blades are usually sharper in the areas where they have better contact (though I can get the whole blade past the hht) Id be interested if just breadknifing it would be better.
