Default e-bay scales - waste of money?

I've never tried to make scales, nor do I now if I've got the supplies and tools.

While looking through e-bay while the kids were napping, i came across two razors that have decent looking scales.

As it appears that the blades are "new" and unmarked, I'm assuming they're junk.

Would I be able to take out the back pin, and swap out the blade? I've got two decent razors at home, one w/o scales and one with broken scales.

Or, would it be easier to try and make the scales or have someone else do it?

I guess, I'm wondering if they'd be worth the money, knowing I'm only buying scales.

    Thanks.

I'll be patient. Keep working with the blades that are functional.

I'll keep practicing on my kenrup strop and buy a TM strop later. The "project" blades will sit and wait till I feel like blowing money on them.

I appreciate the help. I'm grateful that I can post questions here and get a quick response. THANK YOU.

If your going to buy premade ones, at least think of these instead.

Typically the quality of scales is arond the same as the quality of the blades (with some exceptions). So I would those cheapo blades on ebay that are really letter openers shaped like razors have some pretty low quality scales on them.

Buying vintage blades where the blades are in poor shape could get you some good scales for cheap, but you have to watch their condition (especially watch for rotting scales).

What razors do you have that need scales? If it's worth it to you to have those two razors up and running, lots of guys make scales for good prices (or if you are handy in the shop, you could make your own ).
