three sets of scales: work in progress
if you've been in chat you've probably already seen these but I figured I'd post'em up here too since things seem slow on the boards this week!
Been working on 3 sets of scales this week. Rosewood /w lacewood spacer with the barbers notch, one in walnut with a poplar spacer, and a set in Bubinga, which is REALLY HARD WOOD
The set in Bubinga is still glued together and I'm still shaping them out. I've been going to town on these with 100 grit sandpaper and its like it does nothing

Yeah... The rosewood is getting a Fredrick Reynolds 7/8 hump-tang wedge..
The walnut set is getting a Joseph Allen 6/8 "medium hollow ground"
and the Bubinga set is getting a N.Weiner "King's Cross" Solingen 7/8 hollowLast edited by Undream; 03-27-2009 at 01:38 PM.

hey what did you use to cut the stock of bubinga into the final scale handle thickness?
i imagine with wood that hard youd cut it a little thicker then plane it. thats what im doing with the ironwood scales i am building once i get around to them. im thin out the stock to say 5/16 then plane em down to 3/16.
once again they look great.

Great looking scales.. I love that diagonal grain on the rosewood spacer.
