Thanked: 0First Restore
Oh boy.
Just started my first restore..
I was filing the pin down to remove and scraped the scale. lol
Then I filed down the pin and then punched it out with a center punch. Crush and broke both side of the scales. I really didn't hit it very hard...
Starting to clean up the blade.
Any recommendations on grit of sandpaper sequence. I also own a flex shaft from my silver smithing days..
Thanks.

Yes, that can happen. I only remove scales if i really have to.
I start at around 240 grit if they're really pitted & work through up to 1200 before buffing, but it depends what state they're in. Maybe you won't have to go as low as that. I'd go as far as 2000 if i could get hold of it a little easier.
Try using WD40 instead of water with the wet & dry. I think the results are better & the slurry it creates helps the process along.
