Default Friedrich Baurmann... What work is needed?

hey so I just got this, and was wondering what resto is in order. I will probably try to/have it recaled with some faux tourtouis shell replacement scales from classic shaving

i checked out the auction (since your image links are broken..) and I think just taking some MAAS metal polish to the blade will probably do the majority of the work -- I guess based on the E-bay pics I'm not sure if there is any pitting or not... cross your fingers that there isn't!

If there is, then what? Steel wool? Sand paper?

It depends how nice you want it in the end. Me personally, I don't mind a little pitting and tarnish so long as there is not rust so I start with a higher grit paper, maybe 600 or so, whatever is needed to remove the rust.

If you want to go full mirror polish and zero pits you may need to start at a much lower grit.

The wiki has a great article on hand sanding here.

Is it necessary to remove pitting or is it just for aesthetic purposes?

I would consider it aesthetics so long as there is no active rust going on in the pits and as long as the pits aren't on the bevel.

You just want to keep an eye on them though just in case any rust pops up.

Edit: Also since the pits are more prone to collect water you'll want to take care in drying the blade after shaving.

Hmmmm.... I still don't have it yet so this is still hypothetical. If there is rust can I just sand those little marks or do I have to resand the whole blade?
