    Default Sunday Sanding

Here's what I was up to today. Started on this one, that's been sitting in my pile of 'waiting to restore' razors. The after pictures are at 600 grit. I'll post some more soon:

Looking good, Bjorn. Who's the maker on that one? Don't recognize it.

    Thanks man.

I don't know what the make is on this one either. It says it's a Sheff, and the other side is either H&B Co or H&Co B? Anyway, it's got some nice faux ivory scales that almost match the covered tang.

Hmmm- Guide to Razors has a H&A and a H&C, but no H&B...weird.

    Very nice Bjørn!

Now it's only missing that perfect shiny finish

It may be sheffield steel, but it was forged and real hollow ground in Germany!

I wonder if it could be this company? It was a pottery maker located in Bavaria, Germany, founded in 1904. Maybe this company provided the tang overlay for your razor?

That could very well be it. Thanks Lee.

I think it is an H&C now after seeing what Lee posted, and having another look at that stamp.

Yes, but if you are going to use the rationale of "H & Co.", then you have the following possibilities from that same guide: Hawcroft & Co.; Hayden & Co.; Helliwell & Co.; Herbrand & Co.; Hessenbruch & Co.; Hill & Co.; Hobson & Co.; Holbem & Co.; Homan & Co.; Horton & Co.; Houghton & Co., and Howell & Co. Well, now that narrows the choices down to twelve.
I'm glad I was able to help shed some night on this situation.

    Regards - Walt

Hehe Let's not forget all the H & Co. retailers that may have stamped their initials on the razor!

Another point to look for though is which of those brands often used simply "H & Co" on loads of their products. I did run across another H & Co producer that used a similar mark to the one on Bjorn's razor, but marked below with an L for the region of France in which it was located. Guesswork can be fun even when accuracy is questionable
