Default Work in progress - Thomas Waltham & CO

Don't know much about this razor as far as quality goes.
It's marked Thomas Waltham & CO - Sheffield. The old horn scales were broken and repaired with an old nail . This is my first shot at this so, if its no good i'll just use it to learn some honing skills.

    Before

    After 1200 grit w/d paper

    And after some Autosol

Seeing the first photo I thought it had horrendous hone wear, but you've done a great job on it! It's got an interesting shape. I like it!

Realized a spelling misstake, it's actually stamped "Thomas Whatham & Co Sheffield" and not "Waltham".

That's incredible. Are you saying you resurrected that rusted hunk of steel using only 1200 grit sandpaper and Autosol polish?!? I am impressed. Which Autosol product did you use for the final polish?

    Regards - Walt

Actually, it was 320, 600 and 1200 grit felt a bit overkill to take pictures after every grit. But i did do all by hand, no dremel.
I used Autosol Metal Polish and rubbed the hell out of, almost expecting to see a genie pop out .

    Phenox,

    well done.

can you tell us the total time frame or time you spend into the sanding part?

I guess somewhere around 3-4 hours for the sanding part and ca 30min with autosol.

Thought I might post an update on this razor.
Got my table saw today and decided to give scalemaking a go, had a slab of oak in my garage to work with .
I also used a piece from the old horn scales to make a spacer, just need some sanding to make everything come together. This is the most fun i've had in years!

Dont know why the old pictures are broken but you can look at them here:
