What would Seraphim do?
Seriously, though, I think some fine jimps at least on the bottom of the shank would be in order here.

Thanked: 735That thumbnotch looks pretty good, but it won't balance a DA well at all. The thumbnotch on a DA needs to be mid-tang, otherwise, if it's way forward like that, it'll mean that you need to put three fingers in front of the scales, and your pinky on the monkey tail to get it to work
Looks good Jim!

Thanks for everything guys.
I'm thinking I'm done with the grinder and the file. I like the shape, so it's time to move on. Now to the sanding!
Where should I start? 60 grit? 80?

I think the consensus is start higher, then go lower only if the higher grit isn't cutting it. Yes, 80 will take lines off in a hurry, but you could just be creating more work for yourself. If it's ground fairly smooth, start off with 200 and see how it goes. You can always go lower.

Ok folks, here she is...my finished DA mod.
It was a learning experience...and not a perfectly good one, either. I never did get the finish right...and the grinds where the shoulders used to be are there for good, it looks like. But...the shape is nice, and the scales (donated by O_S. Many thanks!) seem to work well. I got it honed up and she shaves well. Not fantastic, good enough for work.

Nice work Jim. Finish looks good. Like the scales & pins too.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
