Default Deformed pivot hole (and "what is it?")

Started my first scales-off restoration project with a bit of a puzzler...

Question #1: Can I salvage a deformed pivot hole? Drill it out and use some kind of bushing maybe?

Question #B: Anyone have a clue what brand this sucker is? All that left of the tang stamp is "Universally Approved" Above that is something that *might* end with "SILET"... There's just a couple squigles left of what was probably a logo or insignia. I'll live if I never find out, but it'd be cool to know. Again,

Thanks in advance for any help.

I cant help you with the makers name, but the pivot hole is quite common, nothing to get excited about, its just due to the type of punch used back in the day.

If the hole bothers you, I've seen two different ways to fix it.

One is exactly what you were thinking, drill it out round and use brass bushings.

The other is to fill it with a very hard epoxy like JB weld and drill the hole you want throught he epoxy.

In the Wiki is an illustrated guide on how to do it... I did not include the drilling it out part in the guide though, in my opinion you should only try drilling them out if you have access to a drill press....`

Well, of course I should have double checked the wiki! Found it. Very helpful.

    Thanks all!

You could fill it with brass tubing then drill it out to the proper size. I am not a pro by any means but I have done it on one of the blades that I have and it has worked quite well. Once the razor is pinned with a brass washers on each side it will not fall out.

Also, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I doubt that it would have any effect on the performance of the razor if you simply left it alone.

Really? Granted the scales were broken, so it's hard to say what the issue was, but you could feel the blade slip around on the pin before I took it apart...

    Learning is fun!

I haven't been here that long either, as you can see from my post count, so take everything I say with a grain of salt and shot of penicillin.

Anyway, my daily shaver is a really nice henckels. the scales are nice and snug like they should be, but I know that it has either an oversized or out of round pin hole in the tang, because I can move the blade around just slightly.

Hasn't caused me the least bit of trouble.

My technique on the other hand.....

    lol
