Uneven sanding issue
Hey all,
I'm restoring a Dovo and it had significantly more pitting and rust on one side than the other. I sanded it down and now due to the excessive work I had to do on one side, that side is a little flatter or less hollow ground than the other.
Will this cause problems when I attempt to hone? My bevel will be uneven. How big of a deal is this? I'd hate to sand down the other side for no reason.
Thanks,
Doug

The bevel might look funny on the sanded side, but an uneven bevel doesn't mean a bad shave, just ask anyone who shaves with a japanese razor or microtome.
I say leave it.

Thanked: 13247Dan is right, it should not make a difference in the shave, but I just had to know how you managed to sand away enough metal to change one side of the razor.... You did this by hand????

So I finally finished this one. It honed up nicely. Once I established a new bevel, I did Lynn's aggressive pyramid and then stropped it. It needed a little more so I did the small pyramid and stropped again. I'm very happy about it. Shaves great.
I did sand it by hand for hours with 80 grit paper. It had some deep pitting. You can't even see the difference in the 2 sides but you can feel it. It's very slight.
Thanks for all the advice.
