    Default 2 vintages + Newbie restorer = I dunno

    Hey all,

I won 2 pieces on the bay.

#1 is a Muschel from Germany - looks carbon steel to me - no idea of the full condition of the blade but it was well under $15 so I thought, what the heck, beginner's practice model.

#2 is actually a very old Henckel with a PUMA box. Not sure that bevel is not smiling at me either, but we will see.

I plan on using sand paper and restoring the steel by hand following what others have suggested in posts and Wiki. If the scales are messed up thats a different story . . .

Any comments or warnings, fire away!

    Thanks,

    Alpsman

I also am new to this, I got some that were in FAR worse shape, with heavy pitting. Hand sanding is great if the pitting is minimal, I got everything I needed at an auto parts store. For the heavy pitting, I took some advice from this forum, and I borrowed my father in-law's dremel, and used a flap wheel sander...It worked beautifully, and took hours off of the time that I would have used to hand sand it all. After the flapwheel, I sanded from 200 grit thru 1500 grit, and its coming along nicely.

By the way you can get the flap wheels cheap here:

    Congratulations! Have fun!

First project on the list, here, is a dull blade, broken scale-Ern Crown & Sword 4720.
This is the model, and not the actual razor:
