    Default blade treatment ideas

Here are a couple of experiments on some home made blades. Neither blade is anything to write home about. One blade has a mustard patina the other one has a baked on finish. The mustard might be something good for a pitted or ugly blade. I think it might be cool to do the baked on finish in black with black micarta scales. I figure I might as well show my ugly work as well as my pretty work.

Charlie I have a picture of your second frameback in my album longer than I ever touched a razor for real.
I do not think you can show anything ugly.
    Try again, hehehe

I'm not very keen for mustard on a razor blade, catsup is the way to go.

Baked on? what is that, or at least start out with?

I have had some very good success and very bad failures with boiled black oxides

But I can not say "Pardon me, but do you have any catsup" I will have to stick to Grey Pupon for this high class work

I airbrushed on some fresh shellac/buttonlac mixed with green and black pigments before the tempering process. It should polymerise and make a pretty tough finish, time will tell.

My experiance with boiled black oxides if very polar also. It works great or notgreat.

I do not know how it will hold up but I wouldn't worry about it, it would just add more staining.

I like that leopard spotted blade, very cool IMHO. How did ya do that one?

Could you make it brindle or tiger striped?

I dabbed on mustard in little dots using a q-tip let it dry then cleaned it off. I did this four or five times. There is a lot of info on the net if you search for it. You could make different patterns. It might be a fun option for a pitted less than primo blade.

    This is beautiful work man...
Here is an idea... paint some design on the blade, then treat the blade, then use solvent to remove the painted area after the treatment... you should try it... it's fun.
