Thanked: 317Most of what you're looking at is just a big fancy washer made of the same metal as the pins. I've seen several guys do that.

Thanked: 13245Take it apart, I think it will be a learning experience for you, and take pics so it will be a learning experience for everyone else... It is pretty cool the way the old timers made that look happen and how it actually functions....

I accidentally think I found out how to do that when you pin a razor. Looks like they used 3 different size washers and sanded them down to smooth the edges. As long as the flare on the pin is large enough, you should have no problem with sanding it to far and having the pin pop apart. Hope this helps.

They are 1 piece brass washers and not 3 stacked.
I have several of those from the oldtimers. Some a tad different but all 1 sized washers.

Thanked: 317If max says they're one piece, I'd put good money he's right. However, I have seen at least one person duplicate the look by stacking washers. Of course, I've also seen little steel dies for pressing washers into this shape, and that makes a lot more sense for a manufacturer.
Always good advice. How do you think we learned so much about anatomy? A few people took apart a lot of people, and shared pictures.

There should be a steel "cup spring" under that washer... don't lose it.
