New (old) blade - removing chips
Found this "Smooth Cutter" " Warranted by G & O Sheffield"
Cleaned nicely; took a nice edge but there are small chips or serrations. Do I take off the whole edge? Honing them out will take hours...or so it seems to me. This is very basic and I apologize if this has been answered a million times already. Jim

Pics would help but if they are small like you say I don't know why you presume it will take hours. Unless you've honed this one before and know it's extremely hard steel.
You need to hone the whole edge. Your edge needs to be uniform and clean from any chips or serrations.
A magnifier helps a lot in such a situation. Some might suggest breadkniffing as to speed up the process. This is not always needed but like I said before pics would help as to see the damage.
