Adding bling to a razor
I have a few questions about resto/custom stuff.
-Is it possible to repin a razor with more precious metals, like silver, or low karat gold?
-How do people do gold/silver inlay in handles?
-Is it possible/how hard is it/how expensive is it to re-goldwash a blade?
Thanks!

Some answers...
1. Yes you could use silver or gold however the wear would not be as good as getting the same look from brass or nickel-silver pins....
2. Same way any one else does, by inlaying wire
3. Yes you can, talk to AaronX I think he actually did an article on how to do it... and gave links to where to get the kits...

Thanks for the answers, I will ask AaronX. Can you provide a little more detail about the inlaying thing?

BTW, if you're new to inlaying. It's WAY harder than it looks....unless you want your scales looking like they were hacked at by a blind woodsman, you should practice on a piece of scrap wood (preferably the same material your scales are made from)

Yeah I know. Good thing I won't be doing that part by hand... I will probably cut my inlay design out on a CNC mill if I decide to inlay. That way it's ultra precise, and I can control the press fit to within a thousandth.

Regarding the pinning, you might opt for silver (or even gold) for the washers, but I would stick with either brass or nickel silver for the actual pin (rivet).

I don't actually own a CNC, but I am good friends with my old high school shop teacher, I'm gonna try and work out some deal where I can get time on the mill in exchange for volunteer student teaching... :-)
A good friend of mine in art school is going to help me design the graphics, then I'll code it in and cut it and see how it works.
My current plan is a teal coloured plastic with a new twist on a classic American icon. I'm not gonna reveal it for fear that someone steals my thunder. Any recommendations on a type of plastic?
Provided that plan works out, I will be milling out some Ebony scales with silver inlay, silver washers, and NiAg pins.

Thanked: 25Make sure to post pictures if this works out. The best of luck. I never thought of trying to get in the local high school to work on the milling machine.
