Default New Find - Suggestions for New Scales

So I'm walking through a local junk shop and I spot this in the case. You can't read the tang from the lousy photos on my phone, but its a Dubl Duck Special No. 1 - Pearlduck. For $5 I couldn't pass it up.

There's some obvious honing wear, but the edge looks to be in good shape - no chips, rust, cracks or anything too dreadful. The scales are toast.

I'm thinking of making a pair (these would be my first) and am soliciting recommendations for materials. I have currently at my disposal some pretty nice bubinga, spalted maple, ash and mahogany. There's also a fantastic store in town that carries a lot of exotic hardwoods. Any suggestions?

Yellowheart... will be very close to the original gold color scales and is a great wood to work with....

You could also make a new set of yellow acrylics if you wanted to keep it "close" to original...
