Thanked: 7I tried making my first scales with the saw on my SAK, about 1/6th the rough first cut, I ran to harbor freight, and bought a coping saw for less than $5. Not as fancy as a band/scroll saw, but it works.
Go grab one, you will not regret it.
And honestly, not too bad for a first attempt. My second ones turned out worse(first were not too bad)

Thanked: 317Don't feel bad. My first attempt at scales was sanding down and reshaping the biggest, ugliest, clunkiest wooden scales I've ever seen, refinishing, and re-pinning.
Messed the pivot pin up, and completely split the scales trying to remove that pin to re-do it.
Quoted for extreme truthiness.

Hey, at least it's a solid first try! Great start, would be sad if you'd quit now. Just try again, like icedog said: Next will be better
