Thanked: 30FRITZ BRACHT DOVO
Hello
I purchase a Fritz Bracht Dovo #38 razor from Ebay for $26.00 and I just received it today. I am new to straight razor shaving and I knew when I purchased this razor that it was not in shave ready condition. I sent some messages with pictures to some of the people on this site that advertise razor restoration and I have got some responses back that say it will be about $45.00 dollars to restore this razor. I just wanted some opinions as to whether or not there is a big difference in manufacturing quality of this razor as compared to a brand new Dovo razor. I am asking this because I have got different opinions on restoring this razor or buying a brand new one instead ? Also can anybody tell me how old this razor might be ?
Thank You

That would be $45 well spent as the razor would come back as pretty as it can be made and REALLY shave-ready.The pitting on the toe will probably not come out,but it should'nt affect the shave.Maybe more experienced posters will have more advice on this.As far as quality,it should be a good razor for your lifetime and maybe longer.Since you've already bought this one,I recommend that you get it restored and see if str8 shaving is for you.Otherwise you'll need to spend $100 and up to get a brand-new one and maybe find out it's not for you.

Why not leave it as it is, get it honed, see how it shaves and then decide if you want to have it restored? I wonder if you can save the toe end of the blade. Maybe it has to be shortened by approx. 1/4" as the corrosion gets pretty close to the cutting edge.
