Well, they look great. Kind've an antiqued effect. It's a solid first attempt & i'm sure you've learn't (the hard way) an awful lot. The good thing about learning the hard way is that you always remember it better!
I will say though, that the scale looks pretty this at the pivot end, & you may find it delicate when you pin them. Look here & watch this

Today I made another set of scales from the maple, more a conventional set.

These only took me 2 hours to make, although they still need finishing

Pff, it's been a while. Been busy with work, school and heavy drinking

All the parts I needed are in, the pins and washers have arrived a week ago. The hammer was a big problem, ended up making one myself from an old hammer! The only one I found was very small and costed 45 euro...
I think it's time to start pinning my razor this afternoon.

I wasn't sure what to think of the shape earlier in the process but the scales came out real nice. Very impressive for a first set of scales.

That pinning looks good! Does it sit centre of the scales?
Well done for finishing it. I wouldn't have had the patience to work through it!

Thanks Piet, Ben,
Special thanks to Ben, you gave me some good advice which I can take with me for my next scales... About the pin, it looks off centre because of the curved scale, but it's right in the middle.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with the work, it's far from perfect, but I did learn a lot and bought/made all the necessary tools.
Next set will be a lot easier!

And besides, making these was loads of fun

Just wish I had more razors :P
