    Default Regrind tip questions

    All,

I have been looking very hard at a SS razor, a Dovo "Renaissance" in particular. My only real hesitation is I prefer a spike or Spanish point.

I have done a lot of restorations, but nothing with actual re-grinds. What would be involved with a re-grind of the tip without damaging the temper or changing the characteristics of the blade. Another concern would be having the finished product look "correct" and not hacked.

With that question posed, I have never seen one of these particular razors in person so the blade style may be very nice unaltered... Bottom line is I am looking for a gift for myself and this razor is at my price point. If anyone has any other suggestions, then I'm game!

    Thanks!

    Allen

Would it be out of the question to go for a Friodur instead? You can get them as is in spikes or Spanish points.

Suggestions, eh? How about a spanish point friodur, if you haven't already gotten one, that is

I've seen quite a few guys without much experience dremel out the point to their likeness, Seraphim does have a lot of practice so I'd check with him. But I'm sure with one or two practice runs on one of these ebay losses would be sufficient training.

You may want to play with your favorite graphics program first and see if you can make a blade on a picture look good with modified point. I somehow can't envision it. The round point seems to be a perfect match for that razor.

I usually re-do tips on the Bader where I can control the speed. The main thing I can tell you is that no pressure goes a long way and once you take the steel off, you can't put it back on.

    Have fun,

Ooooooohhhhh so true, make really sure you want to change it...
I tend not to change roundpoints but thats me...

The Babers Notch lends itself to mods rather well, and like mentioned above the semi round, like the Double Arrow razor lends itself to mods also...

I already have a 7/8 Spanish point that I is one of my favorites!

I was just curious; I haven't made up my mind honestly. I agree it is much easier to take the metal off then to try to glue it back on!

I missed out on a Masonic blade recently (due to my own inattention) so I am looking at the Dovo again. I don't know what it is about that particular razor but I keep checking it out... I just like it for some reason.

Indecision is an awful thing.... and usually ****es me off!
