Thanked: 45Re-using dremel felt pads?
Yesterday I used several dremel felt pads (part no. 414) to put the finishing touches on a razor I'm restoring. I used one pad with the brown paste that comes with the polishing kit, a separate pad to apply Chromium oxide paste I'd picked up from SRD (originally bought for my pasted strop), and a third pad for a final polish after the blade had been cleaned.
My question is: can I reuse these felt pads and if so, what would be sufficient to ready them for another use? I would just designate the first pad as the brown paste pad, the second as the CrOx pad, and so on.
Or is the conventional wisdom to toss after each use?
p.s.
The CrOx really worked quite well; I love that I can use it for two purposes.
p.p.s.
I ran the dremel mostly at 5k rpm, and could barely detect any increase in temp. I tried it at 10k rpm a few times, and could detect only the slightest warming; out of caution I ran the blade under cold water. I don't see overheating as much of a threat at these speeds when you are dealing with a 0.5-inch felt buffing wheel.

Thanked: 402Yes you can reuse them with the same compound.
The green one or any compound thats oil based is best to wash out with gas.
Lust let it soak a bit, hold the dremel into a paper cup and switch it on.

Personally, I don't ever bother.
It's not as Though CrO goes bad. I just keep reusing them with the same abrasives until they fall apart.
Also, they sell the little screw mandrel for them, but you can also put them on the same mandrel you'd use for sanding dists and cut-off wheels, and it hols them MUCH more securely. YMMV

All of these answers are good., except I would change Olivias gasoline to lighter fluid(Ronson or Zippo).
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 15There is no problem in reusing the pads, but I would be consistent in using the same compound with each pad.

Thanked: 488I don't clean mine and they have worked fine. They do have a limited life so the effort seems wasted in cleaning them. Again I just make darn sure I use the same paste on the same buff.
