Thistle Cut
Spent yesterday and most of today sanding (wow do my fingers hurt) but she looks pretty good.
I got this razor for $15 and it was my first clean up of a blade. There's some pretty significant pitting and I just didn't want to ruin the blade by sanding too much. Maybe some day down the road I'll have the intestinal fortitude to remove more metal but for now I want this to be part of my regular rotation.

Looking at the initial condition this razor came to you and what you achieved with hand sanding, I would say you did pretty good!

Very nice work!
Only a bit of a shame that you didn't start with a heavier grit sandpaper at the start to allow you to more fully remove that bit of pitting at the toe of the razor. Still, there is always time to go back and do it again
But, seriously, 'Good Job, Sir'. I can totally appreciate the long hours that go into getting a good shine on a piece of tool steel.

Thanks guys! Max, I strive to make my blades as beautiful as yours. You do some great work!
I started out with 150 grit then moved back to 100 to try to remove that pitting up at the tip. I really was scared I would break the blade or something horrible and that all my hours toiling would be for naught. Sometime around lunchtime on the 2nd day of sanding I resigned to having the pitting there and finishing sanding the rest of the blade before taking it to the garage for buffing.
