Thread: TI Blond horn

I have several TI's with the blond horn scales, when I got them a couple years ago now the scales were almost pure blond close to white with just some traces of brown in them, it seems they are either aging or changing color and have considerably more dark brown or black streaks in them.

Is this normal or something I should be concerned about? the blades are all fine. can the scales be restored and how and if so is it something that needs done soon or can it be done anytime?

there's nothing to be concerned about. Some materials just darken with age. It's a naturally occurring instance. Light, oxygen and usage conditions can and will have an effect. I would be more worried if it started to dry out, chip or warp. Just use some neatsfoot oil. Rub it in and let it sit overnight. Wipe off the excess the next day. That's how I do it.
Even the horn scales that get little use and sit in my display stand get treated like this once a month. It can't hurt and neatsfoot oil is so cheap a little will go a long way.
P.S: I also use renaissance wax on many of my scales.
