Default 2 Speed Bench Grinder - $79.99 at Woodcraft

Buy Two Speed 8" Bench Grinder at Woodcraft.com

If you go to the store, call first for 2 reasons.

    1) To Make sure they have them
    2) It is listed as 129.99 at the store. The guy dropped the price down to $85 so it would be the same w/ tax as it was to order online + shipping.

I have a dumb question. Can this be used to regrind old straights? I'm not really ready just yet to do so, but if it's the tool for that job I might buy one.
    Thanks,
    Kent

Others will probably disagree, but I don't see how this grinder can be of any use for razors. I think 1700 rpms on an 8 inch grinder is still too fast unless you can convert it into a wet grinder. Then again, I'm not sure how you could do that with a 1700 rpm stone.

Most that buy those bench grinders out of budget reason or don't know any better dismantle everything, remove the grinding wheels and replace them with buffing wheels. As to the motor, it's mostly made in China and always less than HP advertised but it does work to a certain extend and purpose.

it might not be ideal for regrinding, but its absolutely fine for buffing and greaseless

While it would work, it makes a horrible buffer in comparison to a real buffer.

But yes, using it as a buffer is the only way to make it useful for razors. IMHO.
