    Default Scale Wedge

So I looked and scale wedge leads to more rescales of wedges than scale wedges. So here I'm asking. Does the wedge have to be a wedge? or can it be flat? If it SHOULD be a wedge, how much of a wedge should I sand it to? And it seems from all the restos I've seen that the material doesn't really matter right- I can just use what looks good?
    THanks!

I've seen it done both ways but I think it definitely looks better and works better when it's a bona-fide wedge. I've never bothered to measure exactly the angle of the wedge. I've always just eye-balled it in comparison to wedges in other razors.

    "General rule of thumb"
Measure the thickness of the tang take half that and start there, wedge to a very fine point, then adjust to fit, drill and sand to fit....

That is just a starting point....
In the Wiki and in the workshop are some complete how to's if you start in the Wiki follow the links to the original threads because there are many asked and answered questions there....

I will also adjust the wedge depending the scale I'm going to use. If it's a very hard material that doesn't bend that easily there's no sense at making a wicked V shaped wedge either. The slighest wedge angle would be sufficient. It's all about eye balling and feeling what to use for that particular razor/scale combo.

Okay. So my two materials are wood (lower density hardwood, epoxy finish) and 3/16s lexan. Would these typically warrant more or less acute wedges? (More or less "triangular"?)
I just pulled a couple old DD's apart and I now see they are indeed wedges- not fully tapered, but definitely not flat.
Thanks for all your help guys.
