Addendum to one piece scales
As posted in the wiki - Making One Piece Scales - Straight Razor Place Wiki
I had a few comments on the jig used for the slot cut and agree that it has the potential to be dangerous if rushed. There for I would like to add a few pictures of an alternate method I have been using as well.
I basically will glue the scale piece to a scrap piece of wood and make the slot cut with the piece laying flat. Not shown in these pictures, I used a scrap piece of the same thickness as the scale piece so that i could flip the piece 180 degrees and cut again making the clearing out of the slot less work.
I tried several jig for cutting in a horizontal fashion, but simplicity won with this gluing method working out the best.
Thanks,
Kilowattkid

I thought it was a slightly dangerous method, but to be honest, was left slightly in awe of your "Balls of Steel"! I hadn't thought of glueing mine to another piece & it really is a good idea! Thanks.

big balls = little brain
I liked the second time better when the scrap piece was the same thickness and I could flip it over. cutting on one side left the kerf "well rounded" and required more cleanup in the kerf cut.
I hope that makes sense.

Much better. If you are backing out of the cut it would be nice to see a bit longer block. A tighter throat on the insert would be nice.
