Thread: Want to Polish

I have two straights, a Keen Kutter Blue Steel and an Antoni Tadross. Both have bad rusting around the tang where the blades pivot on the pin. I'm going in with extra fine steel wool to get it off but I was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks on how to get at the rest of it the metal that's between the scales without having to rescale.

Also, I've been told that I have 'Devil's Spit' on both of my blades, and that this causes quite a bit of pitting. I plan on getting an assortment of wet-n-dry, mostly because it is inexpensive and I will have the time on my hands to do it this way. My question is if I can get a really nice polish just rubbing some Flitz or something on the blade when I'm done sanding instead of shelling out for a dremel and all the stuff I'll need for that.

I use a little polish like Mass or similar on a tooth brush. Then scrub away at the tang between the scales. After you are finished just wash the polish away.

Why oh why did I post this in the strop section.

On a further note, the Tadross has a frosted emblem on one side of the blade - the identifying mark of all his straights. Thus I am wondering if I can just work a lot of polish into the blade to get rid of the black discoloration without messing up the logo. I sort of think a dremel might be able to do this with a nice felt wheel, although I don't want to shell out for one and ruin it.

I know that to save the frosting I should really just leave it alone, but I'd really like to explore options on how to get rid of this black discoloration because it is the only problem I have with these great straights.
